CREDITS 2 (LV) 3 (ECTS) - 30 Contact Hours

The course gives an overview of mandate and functioning of the main Latvian constitutional institutions with an emphasis on legislative process and work of judiciary, including the Constitutional Court. Particular attention is paid to questions of sources of law, hierarchy, interpretation and principles of resolving conflicts between legal norms. An insight into the main branches of law – constitutional law, administrative law, civil law, as well as the functioning of the company law and basics of employment and labour law will be provided as well. The classes will take form of either a lecture or a seminar. During seminars students will be asked to do case studies in order to complement lectures with an insight into practical application of legal norms.
